Description

Hanashield High Gloss Finish is a single component, near-zero VOC, 100% pure acrylic base high gloss waterborne paint. It has excellent gloss and weathering properties and is easy to use. It is suitable for most areas of ship and coastal steel structures, industrial applications, and wood finish. It has excellent mechanical and physical properties for heavy-duty applications. The paint is compatible with ColorVista WB Colorant for a colorful high gloss finish.

Typical Uses

Suitable for use as protective coating and finishing for various parts of the ship such as accommodation, superstructures, engine room, industrial application, and wood finish. Recommend to use for steel structures at coastal areas such as refineries, mining facilities, power plants, bridges, buildings, and steel installation as well as wood high gloss lacquer. Can use with ColorVista Colorant for a high gloss colored top coat.

Application Data

Mixing ratio: Not Applicable

Application Method: airless spray, roller, brush

Mixing Procedure :	Mix for at least two minutes or until homogeneous.
Drying schedule :	Drying by water evaporation and air dry lacquer. Higher film thickness, insufficient ventilation, or lower temperature will require longer drying time.

This product requires the substrate temperature to be above the dew point ( + 3~5 ⁰ C). Condensation due to substrate temperatures below the dew point can cause flash rust on metal and adhesion will be affected.

Similarly, the paint under sunlight exposure may fade and chalk.

Application Procedure

Mix properly the paint before use.

Flush equipment with fresh water before use.
Mix the paint until homogeneous.
Thin with water only if necessary for workability.
When applying by conventional spray, use adequate air pressure and volume for proper atomization.
Apply a wet coat in even parallel passes, overlapping 50% to avoid holidays and pinholes.
Excessive thickness can prolong drying and sagging.
Clean up all equipment with water immediately after use.
Keep containers tightly close and store them in a proper storage area.

Condition of Application

Use a brush or roller with a 1/8″ nap. Apply at a sufficient thickness and avoid repeating rolling to have good leveling.

Surface Preparation

General :

Surfaces must be clean and dry, and all contaminants like dirt, dust, and oil must be removed by appropriate methods to ensure good adhesion.

Wood Finish :

The wood surfaces should be prepared and apply one coat of HanaShield High Gloss Lacquer in 50 -75 micron wet film thickness as a sealer. Allow to dry and sand with 280-320 grit sandpaper.

Apply 1 -2 coats by roller, brush but ideally by spray for a smooth finish at around 30 microns of dried film thickness each. Keep from freezing.

The moisture content of wood should be no higher than 9% and must be free of any surface contaminants. Final sand wood no finer than 150 grit sandpaper and remove all sanding dust.

Shop primed steelwork:

The Weld seam and the damaged area should be cleaned to a minimum St3 or SSPC-SP3. The shop-primed steelwork should be repaired for any rust and free from any contaminant with suitable secondary surface preparation such as spot blast, sweeping, or power tooling. Apply the primer and middle coat.

Safety Precaution & Clean-Up

Safety :	Read and follow the material safety data sheet (MSDS) before use. Employ normal safety precautions. Put on necessary personal protection equipment when handling and using this product.
Ventilation :	when working in a confined workplace, thorough air ventilation must be used during and after application until the coating is cured. The ventilation system should be effective to prevent solvent vapor concentration from reaching a lower explosion limit for the product and to ensure exposure limit to the personnel is below the permissible exposure limit.
Caution :	All electrical equipment and installations should be made and properly grounded. In areas where explosion hazards exist, workmen should be used non-ferrous tools and conductive and non-sparkling shoes.
Clean-up :	Use Hana Paint polyurethane thinner (Hana Thinner U) or hydrocarbon solvent for cleaning. Observe safety precautions when using the solvents. In case of spillage, absorb and dispose of the material and used container according to local required regulations or through a licensed waste collector.
